How is the rapid urbanization in the North Coast of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, strongly driven by tourism, transforming the landscape and pressuring sensitive ecosystems?

Methodology: Processing of historical time series data on land use and cover from MapBiomas (1985-2023) – and data comparison.

Results: There was an advancement of urbanization over areas of high environmental sensitivity. The result serves as a warning regarding the protection of coastal ecosystems.
